Fitness + nutrition training focuses on improving overall physical health, and feeling healthy and energetic which is key to being successful in the workplace. All residents receive physical fitness education and participate in brain-based fitness activities 3-4 times a week while in the program. Participates who are not already involved in an exercise program are trained to gradually increase their ability to exercise under the leadership of the Fitness Instructor and the Wellness Coach. In addition, whenever needed, residents are transported to see a medical physician to ensure their fitness and suitability to participate in a regular exercise program.
All residents are assigned a Nutrition Coach who will provide education on the basic food groups as established by the USDA Food and Drug Administration. The Nutrition Coach teaches the fundamentals of healthy eating as outlined by the US Food and Nutrition Information Center (NFIC) and works with the Food Service Agency to coordinate healthy eating habits for the residents. Residents are also provided with recipes and food demonstrations on how to prepare healthy meals for themselves, and their families.
